An accomplished professor, David Dessler taught international relations for nearly 30 years at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Holding a PhD in international studies from Johns Hopkins University, David Dessler achieved full tenure and served as faculty assembly president before retiring from the College of William and Mary.

In January, The College of William and Mary announced the launch of its International Justice Lab (IJL). Part of William and Mary’s Global Research Institute, the IJL unites faculty and students nationwide to collaborate on research in the areas of human rights, transitional justice, and international law and courts. The goal of the program is to produce high-quality, relevant social science research to inform policymakers, practitioners, and civil society advocates.

As part of the IJL launch, the college held a roundtable event titled “International Law and Justice: Challenges and Challengers in the 21st Century.” Moderated by IJL founder and director Kelebogile Zvobgo, the roundtable included perspectives from Wayne Sandholtz of the University of Southern California, Tanisha Fazal of the University of Minnesota, and Layla Abi-Falah, a recent law graduate of William and Mary. During the event, W&M Provost Peggy Agouris emphasized the college’s commitment to engaging with the challenges facing international law and justice and supporting its defenders.
