Listed as a top professor by the Princeton Review in 2012, David Dessler served as a political science and international relations professor and the president of the Faculty Assembly for the College of William & Mary. From 1987 to 2017, David Dessler conducted research and taught courses as a professor with the college’s department of government.
The department oversees William & Mary’s Global Research Institute, a multidisciplinary hub that applies research to real-world issues by uniting students, academics, and practitioners. The institute serves as a base for the Teaching Research and International Policy Project (TRIP).
Launched in 2003, TRIP investigates the relationship and impact of teaching and research on international relations policymaking. In addition to analyzing trends and data from peer-reviewed journals, TRIP researchers also conduct discipline-wide surveys to gain a deeper understanding of how the field of international relations is evolving over time. Eventually, TRIP will establish a comprehensive database that will help identify common areas of research and strengthen the field's ability to impact policy planning.
